Cryogenic deflashing

Cryogenic deflashing of rubber and silicone molded parts

rubber moulded parts - Gummiformteile

Polycarbonate blasting media are used for cryogenic deflashing of rubber mouldings. Emsodur LT and Emsodur C are ideally suited for the deep cold deflashing or cryogenic deflashing of rubber and silicone moldings. If a bisphenol A-free product is required, Emsodur S is suitable.

Cryogenic deflashing of rubber molded parts – That’s what counts!

Long lifetime

Deflashing media or blasting media should never be compared with each other by short-term tests. Many blasting media often show a sudden disintegration after hours due to the many small surface tension cracks that suddenly continue through the grains.

Emsodur C has a long service life. However, the blasting media for cryogenic deflashing has been specially developed for durability and with Emsodur LT, an blasting media with an extremely long service life can be offered.

Dust-free

During the deep cold deflashing or cryogenic deflashing of rubber and silicone mouldings with a polycarbonate blasting media, dust is often created by the decomposition of the blasting media.

The polycarbonate blasting media from Emsodur can reduce the amount of dust. In addition, the newly developed Emsodur LT can visibly reduce the dust content. Subsequent cleaning processes can be shortened or omitted.

Antistatic treatment

Plastic deflashing media are charged by friction because they are poor electrical conductors. Emsodur cryogenic blasting media are double antistatically pretreated. There is an antistatic agent in the plastic as well as on the surface.

Nevertheless, the addition of surface antistatic agent cannot be completely dispensed with during the deflashing process, as the flash breakage and the blasting parts also become charged. However, Emsodur can be used to reduce the consumption of antistatic agent and the loss of deflashing media due to “sticky” grains.

Dimensional stability

For a constant and continuous deflashing result, the blasting media must have a high dimensional stability. The tolerance of Emsodur blasting media is +/- 10%, which corresponds to a very high dimensional stability. Due to this high quality we guarantee the customer continuous and reproducible result.

Quality stability

Modern deflashing operations are executed on continuous processing lines. in many instances deflashing machines are integrated directly into the production process.

In order to avoid fluctuations of the deflashing quality, all parameters must be kept constant. This is not possible when using deflashing media produced from waste or recycled raw material of varying chemical compositions or having random granular structure.

Emsodur is only produced from prime raw materials and is continuously checked during the production process for dimensional stability and quality.

More Mass – Higher Kinetic Energy

Many thermosetting plastic mass-produced mouldings have corners, edges, slots and holes, thus limiting the maximum permissible size of the deflashing media particles. Smaller sized deflashing media particles having a cubic form, provide 27% more mass which improves deflashing performance compared to cylindrical shaped deflashing media.

Application, markets, machines

Rubber and silicone molded parts

Rubber and silicone moulded parts are deflashed in a cryogenic process. These products can therefore only be deflashed at very low temperatures, because otherwise the degree of brittleness is not high enough. Due to the low application temperatures of -30°C to -160°C, the blasting media must be very cold impact resistant.

The rubber and silicone molded parts are often used to seal a wide variety of applications. The rubber moulded parts for sealing are found wherever a liquid flows through. This starts with an ordinary tap in the household or the coffee machine and goes up to all seals of a combustion engine.

Shot blasting facilities / Shot blasting machines

Emsodur LT, Emsodur C or Emsodur S can be used in all cryogenic blasting or deflashing systems available on the market.

Emsodur LT and Emsodur C are ideally suited for the cryogenic deflashing of rubber and silicone moldings in combination with the deflashing systems from  Andreas Berg Stahl- und Maschinenbau e.K.
